Ekodeck's long-lasting features have considerable advantages traditional timber. Equipped with UV stabilisers and anti-mould agents, Ekodeck will not fade to grey like timber and is resistant to rot and decay. Unlike timber, Ekodeck does not require constant oiling, painting or sealing - making Ekodeck a great timber alternative with superior durability.
Ekodeck will never fade to grey like timber when exposed to the elements. Ekodeck contains 45% natural timber fibres. When exposed to UV these fibres will slightly lose their brightness. This is a normal process for any exterior building material. After 3-6 months Ekodeck will stabilise and maintain its colour.
Ekodeck does not require any oiling, painting, or, making it much easier than timber to maintain.
If stains do occur, a general clean using hot water and dishwashing liquid is required to remove the stains. For more information, please download a copy of our Care & Maintenance Guide.
Ekodeck does not require the use of any specialised tools. Standard wood-working tools can be used when installing Ekodeck.
When installing Ekodeck on timber joists, 10g 50-65mm stainless steel screws are recommended. When going onto steel, we recommend 10g 40mm galvanised steel screws. It is important to remember to pre-drill and countersink the boards.
A minimum recommended 90mm of ground clearance is necessary to aid air ventilation and heat dissipation. Ekodeck cannot be installed directly onto a surface (ie. concrete) as it requires airflow and ventilation to facilitate its expansion and contraction characteristics.
Nail guns cannot be used with Ekodeck - as Ekodeck is just as dense as high-grade hardwood timber, it is required to be pre-drilled and countersunk.
Ekodeck is not classified as a structural product therefore it cannot be used as a subframe.
Being a composite product, Ekodeck is made up of recycled plastics, and will get marginally hotter than traditional timber. Darker colours absorb more heat – so please take care on hot days. If you wouldn't go barefoot on a timber on a hot day, please avoid doing so on Ekodeck.
In the event that Ekodeck is scratched, it can be repaired by sanding 40 grit sandpaper along the grain. Ekodeck is the same composition all the way through which allows scratches and marks to be removed by sanding.
No, due to the plastic component of Ekodeck, painting, staining or sealing is not recommended.
