Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter has been designed for installation using our concealed fixing system, Quickfix. To align with industry standard for bushfire installations and requirements, we have gone to the lengths of developing a new Quickfix system with a tighter, 3mm spacing and 100% stainless-steel componentry and clips.
This makes for a clean, modern look free of fasteners and a faster, easier installation. Say goodbye to marking out screw positions, pre-drilling and countersinking your boards! The simple clip system automatically gaps the boards saving you time and money with its ease and speed of installation.
Great for both professionals and DIYers alike, Quickfix is the quick and easy fastening system of the future. Please be sure to obtain a copy of AS 1530.8.1 prior to commencing your build.
Plan your area ensuring your framework is compliant and compliments the finished design of your deck. Cut the Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter boards slightly oversize – its best to trim at the same time once all boards are laid.

Insert standard clips on every joist, except for the centre joist where a locking clip is installed. Screw down slightly and repeat for 6-10 boards. Ensure the boards are square then screw down completely.
Set up a straight edge and trim your overhung boards to size in one go. Install fascia boards where necessary. Wash down your Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter boards for a clean finish.

All co-extruded composite decking, including Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter can, under certain conditions, exhibit build-up of static electricity.
The biggest contributing factors of static electricity build-up are low humidity and dry environmental conditions, the type of subframe materials used in construction and the presence of earthing and/or metal balustrading. Whilst installations where static is noticeable are rare, Ekodeck is not in control of these factors and does not warrant against static build-up.
This phenomenon may be reduced by using an anti-static spray (such as ACL Staticide). These products are water based and may require additional applications after rain or other weather conditions. Anti-static mats or insulating touch points such as balustrades or door handles with a sealer may provide a more permanent solution. A clear coat can be applied to insulate touch points – for best results use a UV resistant, outdoor-grade coating. Multiple applications may be required to create an effective insulating barrier.
Generally, the static build-up in the boards tends to reduce over time as the boards wear in.
Ekodeck does not warrant against static build-up in Flame Fighter boards due to influencing factors beyond our control.
Ekodeck+ Designer Series gives you the same great features of Ekodeck+ with the added benefit of our coveted Durashell™ coating. The Designer Series comes in 6 great colours, featuring a natural, variable timber-grain look which will transform any outdoor area. Ekodeck+ Designer Series also exhibits superior stain resistance thanks to Durashell™ which is highly durable and great for entertaining areas.
Durashell™ is a protective coating made up of a mix of proprietary polymers, giving you an industry-leading variable timber-grain look as well as a strong, durable shield against staining and discolouration. Durashell™ wraps and protects the entirety of the board, shielding the core from moisture, UV and the elements. This ensures Ekodeck Designer Series can withstand the harshest climates in Australia and allows us to offer an exceptional warranty.
No, during the manufacturing process Durashell™ is fused to the core during the coextrusion stage of production. This ensures the Durashell™ coating cannot delaminate and will stand the test of time.
Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter is installed using our concealed fixing system, Quickfix. This leaves you with a deck free of fasteners for a clean, modern look without the hazard of protruding screws or nails.
Ekodeck’s long-lasting features allow it to outlive traditional timber. Equipped with UV stabilisers and anti-mould agents, Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter will not fade to grey like timber and is resistant to rot and decay. Unlike timber, Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter does not require constant oiling, sealing or staining - making Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter a low maintenance product with superior durability.
Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter has the same great UV stability you’ve come to expect from Ekodeck products. Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter will never fade to grey like timber when exposed to the elements. Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter contains natural timber fibres. When exposed to UV these fibres will slightly lose their brightness. This is a normal process for any exterior building material.
Just like Ekodeck, Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter Series does not require any oiling, painting, sealing or staining, making it an ultra-low maintenance product. If there is a foreign stain on your deck, you can easily clean it up using a damp cloth, or for a more thorough clean give it a scrub with warm soapy water and a medium bristle brush.
Where possible, it is preferable to preserve the Durashell™ coating of your Flame Fighter boards as best as possible. As Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter are double sided, we recommend routing the leading edge of your decking and fascia boards to allow a ship-lap style joint for your fascia and finishing board.
Yes, Quickfix is available to suit both timber and steel joists.
Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter does not require the use of any specialised tools. Standard wood-working tools can be used when installing Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter.
Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter is not classified as a structural product therefore it cannot be used as a subframe.
Being a composite product, Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter is made up of recycled plastics, and will get marginally hotter than traditional timber. Darker colours absorb more heat – so please take care on hot days. If you wouldn’t go barefoot on a timber on a hot day, please avoid doing so on Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter
No, due to the plastic component of Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter, painting, staining or sealing is not recommended.
Yes, you can use a pressure washer to clean Ekodeck+ Flame Fighter.
When using a pressure washer, be sure to only use a fan spray nozzle at no more than 2000psi and maintain a minimum of 30cm away from the decking boards to avoid potential damage.
The use of a needle or point jet could cause irreparable damage to your deck.
